	Title:	Balancing Risk with Regulatory in Cyber Programs
	Abstract:	Risk management goals are focused on identifying, assessing and mitigating risks and need to be flexible, future-focused and adaptive to emerging threats.  Regulatory/compliance goals are focused on meeting external requirements and can be more rigid, reactive and based on current or past rules.  Balancing these can prove difficult in our volatile and dynamic ecosystems.  Not being able to effectively and tilting too far to either side can even be dangerous.  Al has balanced between the two in multiple roles in various functions as chief risk officer, CIO, cybersecurity officer over decades and advised/collaborated/consulted in many challenging circumstances, and will discuss those and his resulting playbook and approach.
	Bio:	As the winner of the 2019 Houston Orbie ‘Superglobal’ CIO of the Year and ‘22 Leadership Award, Al Lindseth has been a thought leader within the energy sector and IT profession for many years. After a 22-year career there wearing many different hats across Risk, Technology, Cybersecurity, and Transformation, he left Plains All American in 2022 to support organizations with what he describes as the crunch issue of how the growing risks like cybersecurity, and other major disruptive forces, are managed amid a need to democratize and expand technology within an increasingly connected workplace. Traditional approaches of handling supply chain risk, cyber risk, analytics, edge, and others as separate IT projects and not addressing these needs as various pieces of a major holistic change effort (including many non-technology aspects) are causing them to fail outright or have poor results.

The REGISTRANT/RECORDED PARTY hereby waives any right that he/she may have to inspect and/or approve the documentation, publicity, promotion and advertisement materials that may be created from them. BY COMPLETING THE REGISTRATION, THE RECORDED PARTY WARRANTS THAT HE/SHE HAS READ THIS CONSENT AND RELEASE PRIOR TO THE COMPLETION OF THE REGISTRATION PROCESS, AND UNDERSTANDS IT, AND FREELY ENTERS INTO THIS CONSENT AND RELEASE.
